Swedish Minister says N Stream incidents happen over explosions

MOSCOW, Sep 28 (PRIME) -- The incidents with gas leaks from the Nord Stream and Nord Stream 2 gas pipelines occurred due to explosions, Swedish Foreign Minister Ann Linde said in her Twitter account late on Tuesday.

“The gas leaks from the Nord Stream 1 and Nord Stream 2 pipelines in the exclusive economic zones of Denmark and Sweden were the result of explosions, probably caused by sabotage. We continue to gather information and do not rule out any cause, actor or motive,” she said.

Reuters reported earlier citing Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen that Denmark sees the leaks as the result of deliberate actions.

Operator Nord Stream AG confirmed that the gas pipeline leakage was caused by physical damage and their locations in the exclusive economic zone of Denmark and Sweden. The operator still doesn’t name reasons of the incident as it waits for the results of the investigation.

The company also said that it is impossible to estimate timeframe for the Nord Stream resumption.
